Homeschooling in Seattle can be a very enriching, enlivening experience for families. The excellent museums, galleries, and parks serve as perfect classrooms. Field trips are as simple as a picnic at Green Lake, as complex as an overnight at an Eastern Washington archaeology dig. Homeschooling is as unlimited as the imagination.
The Seattle Homeschool Group is a nonsectarian venue where home educating families can meet and exchange ideas and inspirations. For those new to homeschooling in Washington State, the group is a place to meet old hands who can answer questions. For the experienced, the regular get-togethers are great opportunities for kids to make friends and create lasting relationships.
SHG sponsors regular group-wide potlucks, a wide and constantly changing array of field trips, and several clubs, including chess, writing, and math. A monthly newsletter keeps us all apprised of what’s on the schedule, and several Yahoo!group discussion lists keep us in close contact in case of a spontaneous outing opportunity.
While the subject of homeschooling law and policy does come up in conversation from time to time, the Seattle Homeschool Group is not equipped to give legal advice or support. However, we do have a lot of opinions and are usually more than willing to share them if asked!
